Experience the real African bush in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. This is an environmentally friendly, tented safari camp that allows you to learn great survivor skills while enjoying walking safaris and and much more.
An environmentally-friendly, tented bush camp with no electricity and only intermittent mobile phone reception, providing key elements that contribute to experiencing an African safari from a slightly different and more adventurous perspective - flexibility; privacy; hands-on, interactive activities; no time constraints; no dress code and a host of unexpected, thrilling encounters.
The camp is unfenced, except for a single strand high electric wire designed to keep the elephants out. The Timbavati is unfenced to the Greater Kruger National Park and is a prime ‘big 5’ destination.
Accommodation is in 10 large, East African Safari tents, each comfortably furnished with 2 beds, 2 bedside tables, 100% cotton linen, towels, blankets, battery-operated reading-light and a chest of drawers for clothing.
There are 4 flushing toilets and 4 open-air showers, fuelled by wood fires, as well as 4 outdoor washbasins. There is a pool surrounded by a wooden deck, which is great for cooling off after a walk.
Recommended maximum group size is 18 - 20 People.
The itinerary below is for three-nights. The activities include informative walks, basic tracking skills & spoor identification, Animal, plant, bird, insect identification & ecology, Game drives with sundowners, traditional bush craft and survival skills, Tribal dancing, Astronomy and interactive reptile presentation. All activities are geared towards maximum participant involvement. The activities are presented by highly trained professionals and no prior knowledge or experience is required by the participants.

- Afternoon game drive with sundowners. Interesting info on nocturnal animals & basic astronomy.

Start a fire using the friction method developed by the San Bushmen
Methods of carrying a fire from one location to the next
Making rope (strong enough to pull a vehicle) and snares from plants
Making a herbal cigarette against headaches
Carving out cups from wild melons
Making herbal teas for general & medicinal purposes
Baking bread under the ground - Relax around pool or tent

- Afternoon game drive focusing on ecological processes and the role of the various animals encountered within the greater system.

Day 3

- Reptile presentation
Guests are treated to a hands-on interactive demo. Reptile expert, Donald Strydom provides interesting info on reptiles, first aid for snake/spider bites & scorpion stings, dispels myths and allows guests to interact with various interesting creatures. A variety of snakes as well as spiders & scorpions make guest appearances during the demo. - Lunch

- Afternoon game drive with sundowner drinks. Interesting info on what animal behaviour can teach us about life.
