Zululand in Kwazulu-Natal is home to spectacular scenery and interesting cultural history. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve with its 'Big 5' is one of the major drawcards to this area. Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a world heritage site, is made up of Lake St Lucia and the Eastern Shores Game Reserve which, together with the Indian Ocean, play host to a wide range of animal and birdlife. We have a number of day tours available to help you explore this diverse area.

The following are scheduled day tours departing from St Lucia and/or Hluhluwe but we can customise your own tour to match your requirements (please note that we only book day tours when accommodation is booked with us too).

St Lucia Turtle Tours
Departs from St Lucia at 5.30pm (only between November and March) and is approximately 6 - 7 hours
Spend an evening with us searching for the enormous and extremely endangered Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles, when they come onto the beach to lay their eggs. This unique and fascinating tour enters the reserve either in the afternoon or evening (depending on low tide). The tour departs from St Lucia and starts with a game drive through the Eastern Shores Game Reserve. At Cape Vidal drive onto a pristine beach where the search for turtles begins, driving up the beach for 23km to Leven Point. From here there is an opportunity to walk further up the beach. A light meal is served during the evening. Once off the beach, game drive back to St Lucia using a spotlight searching for nocturnal animals. Animals such rhino, buffalo, leopard and many others may be seen.

St Lucia Boat Cruise
Departs from St Lucia and is approximately 2 hours
Enjoy a two hour relaxed interpretive cruise on the St Lucia Estuary aboard the Santa Lucia, a spacious double-decker boat offering great vantages to view hippos and crocodiles as well as excellent bird life. The boat has a coffee & snack bar and a full bar on board (excludes transport).

Eastern Shores Game Drive
Departs from St Lucia at either 6am or 2pm and lasts approximately 3 hours
Enjoy an open safari vehicle game drive through the Eastern Shores Game Reserve. This diverse reserve, situated between Lake St Lucia and the Indian Ocean, affords the opportunity of seeing rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard. Sightings may also include samango monkey, bushbuck, reedbuck, suni, side striped jackal and a variety of birdlife.

Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve Open Vehicle Safaris
Departs from St Lucia and Hluhluwe
Come with us on a game drive in South Africa's oldest game reserve, rich in both cultural and conservation history. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, a Big 5 reserve, has been successful in its endeavours to save the white rhino from extinction. Tour with qualified, experienced field guides in specially modified open safari vehicles and enjoy seeing many of Hluhluwe-Imfolozi's inhabitants - both big and small.

Interpretive Guided Walks
Departs from St Lucia and lasts either 1, 2 or 3 hours
Enjoy a guided walk through the Mfabeni section of the Eastern Shores Game Reserve with one of our experienced guides, interpreting the sights and sounds of the bush, along with its inhabitants.
This is a relaxed walk in a game reserve without dangerous game and our experienced guides will teach you about the various animals, trees and vegetation you come across.

Eastern Shores and Cape Vidal
Departs from St Lucia and lasts between 4-5 hours.
Experience an open safari vehicle game drive through the Eastern Shores Game Reserve with possible sightings of rhino, buffalo, elephant, leopard and many other animal species. There is also the option to walk to Bat Cave, as well as the Whale Watching Tower at Cape Vidal. While at Cape Vidal relax on the beach or enjoy snorkelling in the sheltered waters at low tide.

Full day Tour departing from Hluhluwe
