Tongabezi is ideally located on a sweeping bend, upstream from the Victoria Falls in Zambia. Sindabezi Island is a private island a short boat ride away.

Tongabezi Lodge has 5 River Cottages, 1 Garden Cottage (with two bedrooms), 4 Open-fronted Houses and 1 Enclosed House with plunge pool.

Privately owned and run, Tongabezi combines romance and exclusivity with warm and attentive service. Each house and cottage has its own valet who takes care of guests throughout their stay and act as a private concierge.

There is no set pattern to days at Tongabezi. Guests can do as much or as little as they wish, with game drives, bush walks and boating trips all included in the price. The majestic Victoria Falls can be viewed either by boat or helicopter.

Accommodation at Tongabezi:
Honeymoon House
Built with the perfect view, indulgence and privacy in mind the Honeymoon House is the original blueprint for luxury Tongabezi accommodation. The private balcony overlooks the river, providing a perfect setting for a secluded candlelit dinner beneath the stars. Alternatively, you can choose to dine with the other guests on one of the river decks.

Bird House
The Bird House features an open-air sunken bath and a private terrace for dining under the stars. Guests can go canoeing on the river, join game drives, bush walks and enjoy sunset boat trips.

Dog House
Located at the water’s edge and looking out across the Zambezi, the Dog House is an open-fronted house uniquely designed and furnished with local materials. It is dominated by a comfortable king-size bed that comes with down pillows and duvet, and a large, airy mosquito net. Like all the houses at Tongabezi, it has a large open-air sunken bath with stunning views over the river. There is a spacious deck for private dining.

Tree House
At the end of the swimming pool a hidden path winds along the cliff face to the secluded Tree House. Set against the basalt rock bed, amongst the branches of the riverine trees this house spreads out over various levels. The king size bed has a large canopied mosquito net and awe inspiring Zambezi views. An extended mezzanine lounging deck can also be used for private dining. The upstairs bathroom has a shower and a loo with a view. Suspended over the river the lowest deck is taken up by an extensive bathroom with a large sunken bath. All the inclusive Tongabezi activities are available ... but this house is so much part of the surroundings that you do not need to leave to experience the beauty and majesty of Zambia.

Nut House
A haven from the elements, it is entirely enclosed with light streaming in through every wall. Charming glass tiles reflect the sunrise in African patterns onto the wood and stone floors. Folding doors open into the private garden and infinity plunge pool, all offering spectacular views over the Zambezi from the elevated position on the river bank.

River Cottages
As well as the open-fronted houses, there are also five River Cottages overlooking the banks of the Zambezi. Each has a large double bed or two singles, plus a mosquito net and en-suite bath and shower, along with indoor and outdoor areas where guests can dine under the stars or simply sit and enjoy the ever-changing river views.

Because the River Cottages are close-fronted with gauze netting in the windows, we find they are better suited to guests who feel nervous about sleeping “outdoors”, but still wish to listen to the sounds of the bush at night.

Garden Cottage
The Garden Cottage is ideal for a family or couple seeking luxury and privacy close to Victoria Falls. The house is hidden behind a private walled garden and set back from the river. It is the only one of our properties without views of the Zambezi.

Beautifully designed and furnished using local materials, it is fitted with a luxury king-size bed and has a private living room with fireplace, an open-air sunken bath and an additional twin bedroom.

Sindabezi Island
Sindabezi Island is unique. An idyllic, exclusive camp on a private isle on the Zambezi River. It is the only luxury bush camp in the Victoria Falls region and in 2008 was selected by The Sunday Times in London as one of the best remote places to stay in the world.

Sindabezi Island has 5 en suite chalets standing on stilted decks at the edges of the Island. The sustainable building methods and energy generation have earned this Island the accolade of the most environmentally friendly property on the Zambezi. The Honeymoon chalet has a romantic open air claw foot bath. Views across the flood plains of the Zambezi and into the nearby National Park complete the experience.

Your stay at Sindabezi Island camp begins with either a short boat ride or a guided canoe trip down the Zambezi. Along the way there are numerous opportunities for game viewing, as we pass close to the shores of the Zambezi National Park where many animals wander to find water at the river’s edge.

The main camp area is set on the sand and is a perfect place to relax, unwind and simply enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this tiny isle. This area boasts two decks: the secluded mokoro deck is tucked away at the end of island; whilst the star gazing deck is a wonderful spot for dining and game watching. The main dining area is set on an elevated deck up in the trees.

At night, the camp truly weaves its spell as you dine under a canopy of stars, with the river meandering past and the  unmistakable sounds of hippos wallowing nearby: an experience never to be forgotten.

Sindabezi Island Camp also boasts state-of-the-art solar panelling set amidst the thatch. This means that all chalets now enjoy hot water and bedside lighting, without forsaking our traditional camp atmosphere.

Chalet One
Chalet One is the sole cottage on the Zimbabwe side of the island. It has a wonderful view across the bubbling channels of the Zambezi River to the Victoria Falls National Park, where game such as elephant, impala and wildebeest come to quench their thirst on the banks of the river.

Chalets Two and Three
Chalets Two and Three are tucked away on the northern banks of the river. They have heated showers, and distinctive ‘loos with a view’ set on a wooden walkway.

Chalet Four
Chalet Four has a lovely view upstream and is perfect for spotting hippos wallowing in the river. At night time, a trail of hurricane lamps lights your way back to the chalet across the soft sand, where a luxurious, inviting canopied bed ensures a wonderful night’s sleep as the Zambezi wends its way downstream to the Falls far below.

Chalet Five - Honeymoon Chalet
Chalet Five is the ‘Honeymoon’ chalet and is situated on a secluded sandy shore of the island. The claw-foot bath is perfect for two. Thanks to the solar panelling, hot water and ambient bedside lighting is assured, The entire Sindabezi Island is also romantically lit with traditional hurricane lamps.
